AI in the Lawncare Industry? Will it Workout?
We’ve seen robot mowers before, generally about the size of a Roomba, but Teleo, a rising company, is partnering with a snow plow company, Storm Equipment, to create an autonomous snow plow. Teleo is creating an attachment for large equipment that allows the equipment to be operated without a human present.
While the invention is super interesting and can help overworked companies that focus on snow plowing, it is scary to see AI starting to takeover an industry we once thought would always require humans. First we got the smaller robot mowers and now snow plowing.
I feel like in the next 10-20 years, a larger robot mower will be created and slowly start to make lawn maintenance companies irrelevant. However, I do feel like companies who do landscaping are safe for now as many landscaping jobs require a lot of precision that a robot may not be able to handle at the moment. The costs of these products are also likely too high to see a lot of widespread use at first, but the lawncare industry has to be ready, AI is here and it won’t be leaving anytime soon.
